Junior Camp 2009

After arriving at the centre and exploring the grounds we set off to Queens Park for parachute games and fun on the playground equipment, steadily getting to know each other and catching up with old friends.

The next day George from Reel Access arrived to introduce us to the world of animation. We really got into making animation using ourselves, crafted models and pictures, adding sound effects and narration formed great animations which were all really creative and fun to watch. We were especially impressed with Kayleigh - we were told that she wouldn’t speak and yet she went on to narrate the whole 5 minute animation expressively and fluently.

In the afternoon we had a huge water fight. Paddling pools full, sprinkling ball inflated and water guns at the ready. Pandemonium ensued for the next hour as water was shot, squirted and hurled over unsuspecting people and water balloons were thrown. The queen of the waterfight was definitely Mandy who loved sitting in the paddling pool laughing as water was flung all over the place.

On the last evening we had a drumming workshop and party. 3 people from Drum Love came and brought African drums for all the children, they then spent 2 hours drumming and singing and then branched into balloon modeling and juggling and other circus tricks. The kids loved them and they made the party one of the highlights of the week.

Overall it was an excellent week and all the children seemed to really enjoy themselves and get a lot from it. We were really blessed with the weather and had a great bunch of volunteers who worked really hard and made the week a huge success.
