18+ Camp 200818+ ventured to Europe this year for an exciting trip to Deinze in Belgium. We travelled by coach and Eurostar and stayed in the hotel Deceder. The hotel facilities were excellent, with easily accessible rooms and an en-suite wet room in each bedroom. The area around the outside of the hotel boasted an adventure playground, a nature trail, boules, a ‘Midget Golf’ course, a swimming pool and sauna, a lake and some wheelchair friendly woodland. We also went to the Technopolis centre in Mechelen. Technopolis is an interactive science and discovery centre. It is split over 3 levels, had a science garden and a restaurant. There were lots of good things to experiment with; water shoots, optical illusions, bubbles as big as a person, an exhibition on espionage and a sculpture outside that allowed you to lift up a car. The last afternoon saw a lot of the ladies preparing for the last night disco. Rebecca brought her make-up with her and spent some time perfecting people’s hair. The gents also tidied themselves up and put on their party gear. Then, in the evening, we arranged with the hotel to put on a barbecue for us. We sat outside & ate our burgers and sausages as the sun went down on a warm evening. We then transferred into the bar, where people gave some final night speeches and everyone had a dance. On the way home we stopped in Calais so people could buy last minute gifts. When we arrived home everyone was exhausted and sad that another PHAB Camp had ended. |
