Senior Camp 2007

Senior Camp returned to the Wingate Centre for 2007. The week began with some ice-cream tasting (although no-one seemed to like the Christmas Pudding one for some reason!) and a big quiz to kick start the team competition which ran throughout the week.

Despite the miserable weather on Sunday we persevered in true PHAB style and went to Hoo Farm. Everyone had chance to feed and stroke the animals, including some of the more unusual creatures like deer, ferrets and reptiles. One of the funniest moments was when John was feeding the sheep who were so eager for their food that they caught all the buttons on his electric wheelchair and spun him around!

The highlight of the week for many was the trip to the falconry centre where everyone had chance to hold, stroke and feed the birds of prey. This was followed by sailing, which, along with the fish and chips that came shortly afterwards, was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! The rest of the week included trips to the swimming pool, gymnasium, bowling and a chill-out evening at the centre watching a film.

Our Nantwich trip also included a shopping challenge which saw each team raiding the charity shops to find amusing clothes for another team’s volunteer to wear! As a consequence, the visit to the Monkey Forest resulted in Kash wearing a fetching dress and shower cap, Adam sporting a lovely pink dress with yellow tights, James wearing bright red lipstick and a bumbag and last but not least, Sinead was wearing a fantastic gladiator’s outfit! It was hard to say whether our volunteers or the monkeys drew the most stares that afternoon!

Our last night party was Hawaiian themed, and despite a somewhat dubious entertainer, volunteers eventually got the party going! Throughout the week, teams had also taken part in a photo challenge which had seen teams trying to fit as many people as possible in a phone box, have photos taken with a police man and the ultimate one – trying to get in another teams photo! The winners of this, along with the overall team winners (the tigers) were announced as part of our awards ceremony on Saturday morning before a very tired group returned home to Birmingham.
