Junior Camp 2007

Junior Camp took place at the Wingate Centre. There were many activities during the week including visiting an ice-cream farm, though this probably would have been better had it not bucketed it down with rain, not the ideal weather for eating ice-cream.

Another favorite activity was archery. We had a number of children who had never had a go at archery before and they were complete naturals at it, and it even stopped raining for the 3 hours that the archers were with us. Our biggest day out of the week was visiting Knowsley Safari Park. Everyone appeared to enjoy looking at all the animals, especially the lions because the theme of the week was the Lion King and there was a little tiny cub who was just adorable.

Another highlight of the week was the water fight. This always goes down well with the kids because it means they have the opportunity to absolutely soak the volunteers and everyone has a really good time. We had an inflatable ball that squirted water out of various holes and that got everyone soaked to begin with. Then we moved on to the water balloons, of which there is never enough but it takes so long to fill them with water and not long to burst them all. The absolute highlight of the water fight was when the staff at the Wingate Centre gave us a bowl of blancmange and a bowl of whipped cream so the water fight became a water and food fight. The only downside to this was that there was a smell of sour milk following us around for a few hours after, but it was great fun!!

The whole Camp was a great success and everyone had a really good time. Bring on 2008!!
