Breakfree 1 Camp 2007

Breakfree 1 Camp enjoyed another week of fun and frolics at the Wingate Centre. It was quite a difficult week, possibly due to the high number of new, young volunteers. However everyone pulled together and we had an amazing time.

The whole week was themed around television and we split into small groups who each wrote, produced and filmed a television programme. Each team was given their theme such as a soap opera, the news, adverts, a quiz show and sport and everyone threw them into the task with the usual PHAB enthusiasm. The results were hilarious and were shown on the big cinema screen for all to see.

Activities included swimming, art and craft and the adventure playground. We also took advantage of the gym. We visited the ice-cream farm and took part in a treasure hunt around the centre. Our favorite day was a whole day spent in Telford. In the morning everyone went ice-skating and it was an amazing experience. The children, all wrapped up in layers, were taken in their wheelchairs at speed around the ice-rink and without exception they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which would undoubtedly have been a first for most of them. After a picnic lunch in Telford park people were given the chance to either go bowling, shopping or to see the many attractions the park had to offer.

In the evening Jos told us a bedtime story where volunteers dressed up and acted out a story about aliens who came to earth to steal our pants - it was very funny. The last night party (controversially held on the second from last night!) was a Bafta Night themed party with the boys in their dinner jackets and dicky bows and the girls in their posh cocktail dresses. We had the Bafta ceremony first, complete with red carpet and a walkway of stars and Bafta awards for everyone, then we all went out for a posh dinner at a local restaurant. Then on the actual last night we had a pyjama party and snuggled up in our nightwear to watch a video with hot chocolate, marshmallows and popcorn.
