Junior Camp 2006This summer's Junior PHAB Camp started on Saturday August 12th. The theme of the week was 'Finding Nemo' and everyone who came on the camp was in a group, on a minibus and in a bedroom that was either a character or an ocean from the film. Each group was awarded points throughout the week for participating in a number of different challenges, good behaviour and keeping tidy bedrooms. As the week progressed things became more and more competitive culminating in a prize at the end of the week! During the week we did a number of different activities, all of them really good fun! Some of the activities included, swimming, a visit to an interactive science museum, an adventure playground, sailing, canoeing, a theme park, a midnight walk in the middle of the day (it was rained off the night before...), activities in the centre's gym, crafts, an amazing water fight and lots of team games and challenges. Archery was another favourite activity. The group that came with their bow, arrows and targets had only participated in wheelchair archery the previous week (helping Senior Camp) and they were extremely accommodating and appeared to enjoy it as much as we all did! During a trip to Ironbridge everyone that wanted had a go on the Victorian swings. One child really enjoyed going higher and higher on his ride, alternately pulling on the rope with his volunteer. After the ride they were both a pale shade of green and happy to be back on solid ground! The week culminated in a party with a disco which everyone got dressed up in underwater or beach themed outfits and danced the evening away! The camp was a great success and a number of the children that came asked if they could stay for another week and/or come again next year, but everyone was secretly glad to get back to Birmingham because we were all exhausted!! |
