Breakfree 2 Camp 2006

So what can be said of Breakfree 2 2006? Well I think it is fairly safe to say it was one of the best Camps I had the honour to lead. As the volunteers gathered together on the Friday night old friends were reunited and new friends met, and right from the start you could tell it was going to be full throttle from start to finish.

As well as many new faces on Camp we also tried many new activities, all of which were met with smiles and laughter. Among the favourites were a search for the bear in the grounds of the Wingate centre - who would have thought we’d have found it on the bouncy castle? (I mean we only walked past it three times!!!).

A trip to Liverpool proved to be very exciting with a play centre in the morning where everybody found something to do, including dressing up as a monkey and climbing the wall (and that was just the volunteers), but the most exciting part about Liverpool was Ma Ma Du and his amazing drums! He was superb, and the best bit was it was just our group so we all spread out and lay on the floor or sat with friends whilst we all joined in with the drums. It was an amazing shared experience that saw us all laughing, some of us dancing and others sleeping!!!!!

There were of course the good old faithful activities like the farm, the highlight being the sheep racing, to the art sessions that created more mess than art, but great hilarity. The party games and birthday presents created a high point on the last night.

By far the best activity has to have been the impromptu visit to the ice-cream farm. Having returned very late from the evening meal out, we decided that a busy day the following day was going to be hard, so instead we had a lazy morning and went to the ice-cream farm for lunch, and as we all sat in the sun eating ice-cream you could see the friendships and relationships growing and everybody was so chilled out and laughing so much that it truly showed just what Breakfree Camps are all about. It has to be said that Breakfree 2 past by without any major disasters and although we were all shattered and could have slept for a month at the end it was a truly amazing Camp, and an experience that many people won’t forget anytime soon.
